The S2 Social Enterprise Group organised Red Nose Day in school last Friday 24 March.  Pupils sold red noses and also spent lunchtimes making cakes to sell.  On Friday, pupils wore something red and £406.96 was raised.  Well done to all concerned.

What a week it has been for our Young Enterprise company “House of Speyside”!  On Friday night they received a Highly Commended certificate for Community Groups at the Moray Young Consumer Awards.  On Tuesday 28 March the group travelled through to the Ironworks in Inverness for the Highland & Moray Young Enterprise Finals and they did not disappoint!  As always they showed Speyside in the best possible light!  Working as a team, they had a group interview regarding the company report submitted two weeks ago, and Emily Masson had an individual interview, based on Finance!  Following a very high-tech presentation practice, they set up a mini version of their Trade Stand.  In the evening; Dimitri, Abbie, Katie and Emma from the group took to the stage again to present all about their YES year.  Then it was awards time.  House of Speyside were the winners for the Best Company Report (Best Company Report - supported by Harper Macleod - This is awarded to the company who the judges feel have made the best written presentation based on their experiences of running the company and who, when interviewed, were able to add value to their report by expanding further).  Dimitris Paganopoulos won the award for Individual Impact (Impact Award - supported by HiSez - awarded to an individual who is just that – for going the extra mile, being an outstanding team member and character, for going above and beyond).

What a night!  The YES team tell us that the competition was one of the closest they can remember, with fractions of a point separating teams in some cases!  They could not have praised our pupils any higher.  Watching these pupils grow has been a highlight of the Speyside year for those involved. We will be donating the profits from the company to MND Scotland very soon, watch out for photos to come!

The final of the Moray Spelling Bee took place on Thursday 30 March.  Speyside High School welcomed the best spellers from Forres Academy, Keith Grammar School and Elgin Academy.  They competed to determine who was the best speller in Moray.  Congratulations to all the contenders and thanks to the school Librarians for organising this event.
